VARANASI
Varanasi, or Banaras, (also known as Kashi) is one of the oldest living cities in the world. Varanasi`s Prominence in Hindu mythology is virtually unrivalled. Mark Twain, the English author and literateur, who was enthralled by the legend and sanctity of Banaras, once wrote : “Banaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together”. According to the ‘Vamana Purana’, the Varuna and Assi rivers originated from the body of the primordial Person at the beginning of time itself. The tract of land lying between them is believed to be ‘Varanasi’, the holiest of all pilgrimages

Ghats:
The ghats are wide steps that descend to the river offering a safe bathing platform to the pilgrims. Tulsi ghat, Dasaswamedh Ghat, Manikarnika Ghat, Dnadi Ghat and others.
Temples:
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is popularly known as the golden Temple due the Gold plating done. Other important temples are Durga Temple, Bharat Mata Temple and Tulsi Manas Temple.
GANGES RIVER
The river known as the Ganges is officially and popularly known by its Hindu name, Ganga. The river Ganges is very sacred to the Hindus. The river has its source in the Himalayas, at Gaumakh in the southern Himalayas on the Indian side of the Tibetan border. It is 1560 miles (2510 km) long and flows through China, India, Nepal and Bangladesh. The Ganges river basin is one of the most fertile and densely populated in the world and covers an area of 400 000 sq miles (1 000 000 sq km). The river flows through 29 cities with population over 100,000, 23 cities with population between 50,000 and 100,000, and about 48 towns.
”Mother Ganga” is described by ancient Hindu scriptures as a gift from the gods; that is, the earthly incarnation of the deity Ganga. “Man becomes pure by the touch of the water, or by consuming it, or by expressing its name,” Lord Vishnu, the four-armed “All Pervading One”, proclaimed in the Ramayana, the Sanskrit epic poem composed four centuries before Christ.

Haridwar:
Haridwar is considered as one of the seven holiest places according to Hindu mythology. According to the legends, when the Gods left their footprints on the land of Haridwar. Its geographical location stands as the gateway to the four pilgrimages of Uttrakhand
